Why do people care?

The other day at work, I was slightly bored and I picked up a copy of Star Magazine to kill some time.
As I browsed through this magazine, I saw numerous photos of people like the Kardashians and a host of others who have never done much if anything to deserve the celebrity that they enjoy.  For example, there were articles regarding things like Kanye West's new years resolutions and what he was getting Kim for Christmas. There is a photo of Miley Cyrus licking another girl's tongue.  Also, it seems that Justin Beiber announced his retirement causing an enormous furor on Twitter.  Snooki talked about tanning and Jenni Farley, also known as JWow on Jersey Shore is pregnant.
I could go on but my fingers would tire from typing nonsense that no one cares about.  At least most of the intelligent adults that I know would not care.   I really have no desire to insult anyone, but I guess I am wondering what is the attraction to magazines like this?  I know that the National Enquirer sells a lot of rags and they have been sued for making up stories if the truth can't be verified.  (Hey, Enquirer, don't sue me... I really have nothing you want)
But the point is what could possibly be so interesting about someone who has never done anything.  I would sooner read about my neighbor's dog because honestly, watching him deficate is more interesting than things that are printed in this magazine.  I don't care who is pregnant, I don't care who Miley Cyrus kisses, I don't care who is getting botox or who has had cosmetic surgery, and I still think that Justin Beiber is a girl.  He is just an obnoxious, no talent hack who for some unknown reason is adored by teenage girls.  Many of these people have no respect and feel entitled.  Maybe its because some of these people come from money that they feel more important than the rest of the world.
Further, I also think that if most of the reality shows were taken off TV, I personally would be very happy and I know more people who would be thrilled to see them go.  And I won't even start on duck dynasty.  I think that Charlie Sheen was closer to the truth than most people want to admit.  Freedom of speech is a lot like karma... it can be a bitch.  So what are your thoughts?
